Have you ever encountered the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”<\/p>\n

As a kid, answering this was as simple as picking out a Halloween costume\u2014”I want to be an astronaut, a pilot, or Beyonc\u00e9.”<\/p>\n

But as we grow older, this question seems to make us anxious, not that we don’t have an interest, but because we have too many. It is also loaded with implications of what’s “normal,” that it has lead us to limit ourselves to only BE one thing, and denying the rest of our passions.<\/p>\n

Most of society is perfectly fine with committing themselves into one path, and that’s okay, but some of us are just not wired that way. We dive into something that interests us, we give it our all, and then we get bored, so we move on to another interest that’s completely unrelated from the previous one. And the cycle goes on.<\/p>\n

Don’t worry. We’re perfectly normal.<\/p>\n

Emilie Wapnick<\/a>, career coach and artist, has a term for people with this pattern\u2014multipotentialites<\/em><\/strong>, people with many interests and creative pursuits (yes, we have a group!).
