Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the department\u00a0is mounting a series of\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/238646866474136\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">job fairs<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0nationwide to facilitate and assist the employment of upcoming new graduates this month.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_More_jobs_in_Q2_-_DOLE\"><\/span>2.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.philstar.com\/business\/2016\/02\/29\/1557737\/more-jobs-q2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>More jobs in Q2 \u2014 DOLE<\/strong><\/a><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>According to a survey conducted by the Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), companies are expected to hire more in the second quarter with the expected rebound in economic activity after the usual slowdown in the first quarter. For the first quarter, the survey showed the employment outlook index rose to\u00a0<strong>27.2 percent<\/strong>\u00a0from\u00a0<strong>19.5 percent<\/strong>\u00a0in the last quarter.\u00a0\u201cThis indicates expectations of an overall increase in the number of new employees to be hired for the second quarter of the year,\u201d BSP\u2019s Department of Economic Statistics director Rosabel Guerrero said.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_UAE_eyes_300_Filipino_health_workers\"><\/span>3.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sunstar.com.ph\/manila\/local-news\/2016\/03\/03\/uae-eyes-300-filipino-health-workers-460573\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UAE eyes 300 Filipino health workers<\/a><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>THE Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) disclosed Thursday that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is in need of 300 Filipino emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Walden Bello asked the high court to nullify as unconstitutional the Republic Act 6727 or the Wage Rationalization Act of 1989. This\u00a0law sets different take home pays for laborers in different provinces even if they have the same jobs. According to the petitioners, the RA 6727 has failed to keep its promise of providing a meaningful living wage over its 26-year reign. \u00a0The plea\u00a0also stated that\u00a0the law violated the equal protection of the law principle and the &#8220;equal pay for equal work&#8221; doctrine.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_Economic_challenges_await_next_President\"><\/span>5.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/business.inquirer.net\/208013\/economic-challenges-await-next-president\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Economic challenges await next President<\/a><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The country\u2019s next President will be facing substantial economic challenges according to former Economic Planning Secretary Romulo Neri\u00a0as he spoke at a Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) meeting last week. \u201cThe Philippines has experienced significant growth in the past few years but sadly, investments remain anemic; poverty is stubbornly high; there is a huge number of openly unemployed and low productive workers, and (we have) an industrial sector unable to absorb our growing labor force,\u201d he said.
