One of these could be, \u201cWhat is your greatest weakness?\u201d Does the prospect of hearing that question keep you up the night before your interview? Be honest. Perhaps you\u2019ve heard of the tried and tested ways of answering \u2013 or skirting around \u2013 this dreaded question. Do not despair. We finally get some answers in this post, appropriately titled\u00a0<a title=\"The Right Way To Answer &quot;What&#039;s Your Greatest Weakness?&quot;\" href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2014\/01\/the-right-way-to-answer-whats-your-greatest-weakness\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cThe Right Way to Answer \u2018What\u2019s Your Greatest Weakness?\u2019&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0Author David Reese thinks that presenting your negative traits as a positive is terrible advice:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Responses like these tell me little about how a candidate faces challenges and immediately implies a lack of sincerity. It doesn\u2019t demonstrate to me how they think \u2014 beyond their ability to creatively avoid being honest or self-critical. It indicates to me that they\u2019re not willing to stand up and say what\u2019s not working&#8230;&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He goes on to say that what he&#8217;s looking for is a more authentic conversation and he tells us why:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I\u2019m not really looking to find out whether their organizational skills could use improvement, or that they struggle with presenting to large groups or even leading large teams. I\u2019m trying to find out whether they have self-awareness; whether they are able to be critical; and most importantly, whether they\u2019re able to tell the truth \u2014 when it\u2019s difficult.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In other words, be yourself. Interviewers are looking for more than that over-rehearsed response you have memorized. They&#8217;re looking for real insight into who you are.
