I am on my 5th internship and counting, and I can honestly say it has been very rewarding and\u00a0fun. And my job right now is to convince you to take at least one internship in the next few months. Increase your value<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Look at internships as a way to increase your value in an organization. Get paid (in relevant work experience)<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Whether or not you get paid in money is very debatable. (No, really,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/fortune.com\/2014\/04\/17\/should-all-interns-get-paid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">it is<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0.) Don&#8217;t let that be the main reason you take on an internship, unless you have a dire financial need. What you really want to look into is if you will gain the right contacts, exposure and experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Internships let you grow more knowledgable in your chosen field, and allows you to gain actual work experience even before you graduate. It also gives you a chance to discover\u00a0your ideal work routine and environment. More than choosing the right line of work, you start asking yourself these (honestly relevant) questions:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWhat\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blog\/types-of-work-colleagues-and-how-to-deal-with-them\/\" target=\"_blank\">type of managers and officemates<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0do you work best with?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cHow can you<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blog\/10-productivity-apps-to-keep-you-going-at-work\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0improve your productivity<\/a><\/strong>?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cDo you need to move closer to work?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cDo I have to be nice to everyone?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cHow do you handle an\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kalibrr.com\/advice\/2016\/02\/how-to-ask-your-office-crush-out-this-valentines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">office crush<\/a><\/strong>?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWhat\u2019s an\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kalibrr.com\/advice\/2016\/01\/everything-you-need-to-know-about-your-sss-benefits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">income tax<\/a><\/strong>, and why do the smiliest of employees frown when I ask?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">There are many more questions, but keep in mind that, as an employee, you are pretty much tied to a company for 6 months. Be a student of\u00a0life at work<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cDon\u2019t let school get in the way of your education.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Someone else probably thought of this line, but I heard this quote from John Ireland in his podcast\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/mason-ireland\/id207526159?mt=2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mason and Ireland<\/a><\/strong>. The quote is not about skipping classes or dropping out. It is about learning beyond the textbooks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">And while not\u00a0everything is about the textbooks, not everything is about the career either.\u00a0I learned a lot about life in general from\u00a0the people I met.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">During the course of my internships, I met college sweethearts, and couples young and old, engaged and married, who gave me dating and relationship advice. I had to the opportunity to try to understand why a British man would relocate to this country. I was in awe of a Stanford grad who spent most of his time in America, then decide to move his entire family back to his homeland here in the Philippines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I also had interesting conversations about how it was to be pregnant. I learned something from a\u00a040 year-old man who jokes about scaring boys to not date his teenage daughter.
