On top of actually landing the job, there\u2019s also a whole slew of questions you need answered: \u201cWhat\u2019s it like working there?\u201d, \u201cWill I fit in?\u201d, and many more.<\/p>\n<p>Especially when you\u2019re thinking of shifting to a newer company like the insurance firm <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kalibrr.com\/c\/fwd-life-insurance-corporation\/jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FWD Life Philippines<\/a><\/strong> (FWD). The company, which is the first life insurer licensed by the Insurance Commission of the Philippines under the new Insurance Code, is part of FWD Group, the insurance business arm of investment group Pacific Century Group. FWD spans Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, and Japan, serving 2.6 million customers, with over USD 22.6 billion in assets.<\/p>\n<p>FWD started its Philippine operations in 2014, making it perhaps the youngest firm here in a decades-old insurance industry. And yet, it\u2019s one of the country\u2019s fastest-growing life insurers, notching PHP 2.26 billion in total premium income in 2015 (its first full year of operations) and PHP 3 billion in 2016 \u2014 and that\u2019s during a decline in the life insurance industry, as noted by the company\u2019s president <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/business.inquirer.net\/228806\/fwd-makes-inroads-ph\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Peter Grimes<\/a>.<\/strong> In addition, FWD is the life insurer with the highest level of paid-in capital in the Philippines at PHP 2.3 billion.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-12133\" src=\"https:\/\/neo-blog.kalibrr.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/shifting-careers-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"shifting-careers\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/neo-blog.kalibrr.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/shifting-careers-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/neo-blog.kalibrr.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/shifting-careers-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/neo-blog.kalibrr.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/shifting-careers.jpeg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This progress is what convinced 27-year-old Aprille Bay-an and 32-year-old Edison Rivera to shift from their old jobs into FWD as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kalibrr.com\/c\/fwd-life-insurance-corporation\/jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Financial Solutions Consultants (FSC)<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As FSCs, they\u2019re stationed at the company\u2019s partner, Security Bank, working with bank employees to give the best insurance plan that fits their clients\u2019 different needs. They\u00a0 act as FWD\u2019s counterpart for the bank manager, training bank employees on insurance products and standing as the main resource person for all things FWD.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a lot of responsibility, but this didn\u2019t deter Aprille or Edison from applying \u2014 regardless of whether they had previous experience in insurance or not. In retrospect, it paid off. Looking for a new job that would maximize her salesmanship, she saw the opening at FWD and jumped into it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was attracted to FWD because [at] that time it was the newest in the market. My personal thinking was <em>hindi pa ganun ka-saturated yung market<\/em>. <em>Marami pa di na-oofferan na clients, <\/em>so<em> sobrang laki pa ng <\/em>opportunities,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n<p>Edison saw the opportunity, too. He described the partnership with Security Bank as \u201cfresh,\u201d allowing them reach out to more receptive clients. It also helped that the clients referred to him were usually already briefed properly by the bank employees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[We have] amazing support from Security Bank,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re able to train your referrers [Security Bank employees], share skills and issues, they themselves already know how to sell the product,\u201d Aprille explained, highlighting the opportunity for leadership and mentoring their job had. He wanted to put his years of experience in the insurance and sales industry to good use, especially after coming from a large and established insurance firm. He joined FWD in 2016 and wasn\u2019t disappointed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re in that stage of growing the business in the Philippines. So if your main goal is to have additional responsibilities or being promoted as an FSC, I suggest FWD,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Ang laki pa ng opportunity na pwede namin i<\/em>-work out, <em>\u2018di lang for FWD<\/em> but also for our bank partnership. So in terms of growth, <em>\u2018yan \u2018yung tinitingnan ko. Kasi gusto ko sumabay sa paglaki ng<\/em> company.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the near future I want to be one of the leaders of FWD,\u201d he added with confidence.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not just career growth that\u2019s offered here. As Aprille excitedly shared, employees are richly rewarded for good work. Not only do they bring home salary and allowance, but meeting targets could also mean bonuses the size of your salary and commissions amounting to thousands of pesos. Aside from her background in sales to rely on, she made sure to complete training\u00a0 in FWD and read up on the industry. More importantly, however, she could count on having people to always help her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I really love about the company is that everyone is helpful. Everyone is approachable,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn big companies, even small feedback has to go through a long process,\u201d she explained. But because FWD is relatively new, the teams are smaller and it\u2019s easier to go directly to the big bosses when necessary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince you get to hang out with [your bosses], they are motivating. And you don\u2019t get that in other companies, <em>na<\/em> you get motivated by the big bosses,\u201d she said. \u201cWe really are a family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Edison felt the same way: \u201cIt really means a lot, especially for the sales force, that you can feel the support of your upper management.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It even extends online, where the company\u2019s Viber groups make sure that every need and issue can reach team leaders and be addressed by them immediately. There\u2019s also a hotline FSCs can call and an online portal that helps them work on-the-go without missing a beat \u2014 all using gadgets provided by FWD.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have technology, your support team, your upper management, your trainings\u2026so for applicants who don\u2019t have much of an extensive insurance background, they don\u2019t need to worry, because they will get their support and training,\u201d Edison said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Nagtutulungan talaga<\/em>. \u2018<em>Di ka na lang ibabato sa<\/em> field without help,\u201d Aprille added.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s this friendly, supportive atmosphere that sets FWD apart from its competitors in Edison\u2019s eyes: \u201cIt\u2019s more fun to work here! The culture here is relaxed and enjoyable.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Your_work_has_a_purpose\"><\/span><strong>Your work has a purpose.<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\u201cI enjoy sales in general, but when I transferred, there was a higher purpose,\u201d Edison said. \u201cThe goal of FWD is very, very different from other insurance companies. We have our motto here: We want to change how people feel about insurance. We want them to enjoy life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\u201cYou really get the chance to help your clients and be part of their lives and help them build a better future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\u201cWith my work as a FSC, we also encounter claims where nakakatulong ka sa pamilya ng nawala,\u201d he said. \u201cAt least <em>nakakabigay ka ng tulong sa<\/em> toughest times ng family. Kasi for me, ang sarap ng feeling <em>na \u2018yun, na nakakatulong ka<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\u201c<em>Kung \u2018di man<\/em> claims, you give them plans for them to enjoy life. Let\u2019s say <em>tumagal na<\/em> and they see their profits. And they go back to you and they\u2019re very happy in terms of their returns, what they get from their investments. That\u2019s another side of our work. When we see that the clients are happy with the product, <em>masaya din kami<\/em>,<em> kasi<\/em> of course, you know that you helped them,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\u201c<em>May nabasa nga ako eh<\/em>: \u2018If only people knew the value of insurance, then you won\u2019t have to sell it.\u2019 People will be coming to us,\u201d Aprille shared.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\u201c[It\u2019s] a product you can buy now that your future self will definitely thank you for it,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">If you\u2019re still on the fence on taking that leap after reading all of this, here\u2019s advice from one very happy employee of FWD: \u201cIt\u2019s always nice to go out of your comfort zone, because the greatest rewards are there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Aprille knows what she\u2019s talking about. She made that leap herself.
