Every few scrolls come the lo-fi music with the user saying “A Day in the Life of a…” Of course, a lot of companies had to jump in on the trend for various reasons: to increase their brand awareness, to promote their company, or to attract job seekers. The best way to do it is to highlight the best parts of their jobs, which almost automatically leads to users asking how they can send in their applications.

These TikTok videos usually show employees enjoying their workdays with high-quality equipment, amazing facilities such as a game room, common rooms with the fluffiest sofas and amenities, and enough time to rest. It may be true that they really have a good and healthy working environment. As much as work can be tiring, there are actual companies who would let you take a rest if you’re burned out. In fact, due to various laws in the Philippines that mandate workers’ rights such as equal work opportunities and weekly rest day, more and more companies have been focusing on their employees’ health as they should.

However, as we watch those videos, we must also keep in mind that it may not be that fun after all. It may be a day in the life of a high-ranking employee who has a lot of time on their hands to rest during a weekday. It may be a day in the life of an employee who has the means to take care of themselves and choose rest over salary. Remember that our life conditions, priorities, and situations differ, so we can’t expect our experiences to be exactly like the ones in the videos.

These videos may or may not be true, but one thing’s for sure—they leave out details about the reality of Filipino workers that they face on a daily basis.
