Glory\u2019s passion is not always aligned with technology. What she originally wanted was to pursue a career in arts and design. However, due to financial constraints, she decided to take a Bachelor\u2019s degree in Information Technology which would allow her to still be creative in the field of web design. She further explored front-end development and web design through her on-the-job training. She continued this path and worked as a Product Designer for multiple companies in the food and beverage (F&B) and healthcare industries.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201c<\/span>After [the] pandemic, nag-on-site kami. Then, nag-struggle ako sa commute from Laguna to BGC<\/span><\/i>,\u201d she shared.<\/span><\/p>\n To reduce her expenses and save time on the daily commute from Laguna to Metro Manila, Glory started her hunt for work-from-home jobs with benefits that would help her support her family better. So, when she found a job position that provided just the right benefits, she was determined to do what she could to secure it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Glory tried lots of online platforms to search for job opportunities. After many interviews and countless rejections, it came to a point where she started doubting herself.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201c<\/span>Parang quine-question ko na ang sarili ko. Parang, \u201cHala, hindi ko ba deserve [yung job]?<\/span><\/i>\u201d she recalled.<\/span><\/p>\n Yet again, she stood up. Glory took the risk and started applying to jobs even with no experience. She also enrolled in various online courses and training to upskill and secure certifications. She created different resumes for each role she applied to. \u201c<\/span>Naging patient lang ako sa paghahanap kung ano yung mga gusto kong pasukin na work<\/span><\/i>,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n After trying out various online job platforms, Glory came across Kalibrr on Google Play Store. She immediately signed up, filled out her profile, and uploaded her resume. Unlike her previous work experience, August 99 is a web design and digital services solutions company. While her college degree aligned with the role she applied for, she mentioned that it was a new experience since she was accustomed to designing products for hospitals and F&B companies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201c<\/span>Mahirap mag-jump from one industry to another<\/span><\/i>,\u201d she admitted. Glory reveals that she has read a lot of case studies on product designs and studied the tools needed for the job. She also tried her best to adapt to the newest technologies. Her perseverance paid and she found not only the perfect work-from-home setup but also a company culture that resonated with her. \u201c<\/span>Okay talaga dito. Maganda \u2018yung environment. Sa experience ko, alam nila kung ano lang ang kaya mong workload,<\/span><\/i>\u201d she added.<\/span><\/p>\n When asked to give advice to those who are trying to change career industries, Glory has one thing to say: \u201c<\/span>Huwag silang mahiyang magtanong. Be curious<\/span><\/i>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Glory wasn\u2019t afraid to ask her co-designers, programmers, and developers to further understand the basics of her work. She even joined a Facebook group where people are willing to share knowledge on UI\/UX design.<\/span><\/p>\n Now, she\u2019s been working for almost a year as a Product Designer at August 99.<\/b> She crafts designs for systems and conducts in-depth research on user interactions with the product. After taking the risk of shifting industries, Glory is now earning while in the comforts of her own home, with more than enough time to spend with her family.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201c<\/span>Very happy po ako ngayon kasi na-cha-challenge din ako since bagong industry ito para sa akin. Na-wa-widen [ang] experience ko<\/span><\/i>,\u201d she shared.<\/span><\/p>\n With August 99, she found joy in team collaboration, a positive work environment, and supportive team leaders. The workplace provided her with the inspiration she needed to thrive in her role.
