Parents aspired for their kids to end up in the top schools and universities, along with skyrocketing GPAs and glowing recommendations from professors. Those things may bring you extra points when applying for a job, except for one workplace \u2013 Google.<\/p>\n<p>An article by author Max Nisen provides a look into the <a href=\"http:\/\/qz.com\/180247\/why-google-doesnt-care-about-hiring-top-college-graduates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">factors that the Internet search giant takes into consideration<\/span> <\/a>when hiring potential employees. This may come as a surprise:<\/p>\n<p><em>In a conversation with The New York Times\u2019 Tom Friedman, Google\u2019s head of people operations, Laszlo Bock, detailed what the company looks for. And increasingly, it\u2019s not about credentials.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Google believes that the top graduates do not necessarily become top workers (though for them, good grades don\u2019t hurt). For those successful folks without a college degree, Bock defines them as \u201cexceptional human beings\u201d because they were able to <a title=\"The One Thing You Need To Get Hired, Promoted, and Ahead\" href=\"\/blog\/the-one-thing-you-need-to-get-hired-promoted-and-ahead\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">overcome adversity by making the most out of situations<\/a> that did not go the way they planned it.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Learning_ability_is_more_important_than_IQ\"><\/span><strong>3. Learning ability is more important than IQ <\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Stop fretting about the time you flunked your Algebra course or if you went to an obscure school. What Google puts more of a premium on is your ability to figure out issues and deliver solutions on the fly.<\/p>\n<p>What the article suggests is that your academic standing is not the biggest determinant of your success in finding a great job and the corporate world. In the end, the focus should be on <a title=\"From Call Center Agent to CEO\" href=\"\/blog\/call-center-agent-become-ceo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">developing one\u2019s self to become the most well-rounded person you can be<\/a> \u2013 and that means considering even out-of-the-box and unconventional measures \u2013 and standards \u2013 to do so.
