How to Dress for a Call Center Interview
Do you have an interview coming up but aren’t sure what to wear? Don’t worry – we’re here to help you out! Although most call centers don’t require you to wear business attire to work, you should still dress up for the interview to make a good impression on the recruiter. Let us take you through some general guidelines for dressing up for your interview.
TOPICS
Gentlemen
• TOP For interviews, it’s standard to wear a button-down shirt (more popularly called a polo). Given the Philippine weather, there’s no need to wear a long-sleeved shirt – but it’s all right if you do. If you want to be more comfortable though, a short-sleeved button-down shirt should be fine. Remember to tuck your shirt in!
• BOTTOM Slacks are the best types of pants to wear to your call center interview. As much as possible, no jeans please!
• SHOES Leather shoes are your best bet for completing your look. Save your sneakers, running shoes, and sandals for the weekend!
Ladies
• TOP A standard office blouse is fine for a call center interview. You know those tops you wear to the mall, to parties, or on nights out? Definitely not those. It’s okay to wear a sleeveless blouse, but do cover up with a jacket or sweater. And choose a blouse with a modest neckline!
• BOTTOM Pair a blouse with either slacks or a pencil cut or A-line skirt. Make sure your skirt is knee-length!
• SHOES Closed heels are the best choice for an interview. You may also wear sandals, but choose ones with heels – flats are too casual. But if you’re like me, and can barely walk (let alone take public transport) in heels, you can use ballet flats or loafers.
• DRESS If you don’t like wearing slacks or skirts, another option you have is a shift dress. But you have to be careful when choosing a dress – it needs to be business casual and at least knee-length. Leave the bright, floral, or colorful ones for mass or the beach.
General Grooming
Presenting yourself at an interview isn’t just about choosing the right clothes – you also need to make sure you’re well-groomed. Some general tips on personal grooming:
• Trim your nails and make sure they’re clean. Ladies, if you have manicured nails, make sure they’re neat and not chipped.
• Brush your hair and keep it neat. If you have long hair, keep it away from your face by tying it up neatly. • Don’t forget to brush your teeth! Use mouthwash if you have it.
• Don’t go overboard on the cologne or perfume – just dab a little on yourself so as not to overwhelm other people.
• Make sure your clothes don’t have any rips or stains!
