Last September 22, 2023, Kalibrr’s Co-Founder and Co-CEO Paul Rivera discussed the demand for jobs this upcoming holiday season with CNN Philippines’ “The Exchange” host Rico Hizon. 

According to Paul, there is an uptake in vacancies for seasonal positions in different fields such as retail, logistics, customer service, and many more. This is especially true for foreign business process outsourcing (BPO) companies that need temporary support during the holiday period. Unfortunately, these jobs are typically contractual.

By the end of the year, more companies open full-time positions as they complete their strategic planning and prepare for next year. 

The Philippines is known for having “the longest Christmas celebration in the world,” as CNBC reports. By the start of “ber” months, or specifically September, Filipinos prepare for it and the spending goes along with them. To support this, more Filipinos are looking for jobs before or during these months for a full table during the holidays.

Paul advises companies to start recruiting now because the labor market is tight. “You have to be competitive. It’s not just one thing to offer a job; you have to look at the wages that you’re offering to attract the talent that you need,” he said.

For job seekers, he reiterated that the skills that are always in demand are soft skills—communication, leadership, or time management. As technical skills can be learned, soft skills are “foundational for the rest of your life,” Paul added. 

Along with this, it is also important to acquire digital skills as e-commerce and digital-related jobs continue to emerge in the country. Paul highlighted that the ability to use technology in a productive manner is as important as ever. According to Statista, the Philippines has the highest amount of time connected to the internet. This is why, as Paul stated, “Filipinos are adept at learning new technology.”
