With the New Year fast approaching, people have been intentional with setting their new year’s resolutions. Some people aim to become healthier by improving their physical activities and diet, while others want to try out new hobbies to increase their areas of expertise.

Have you ever wondered why some people choose to create New Year’s resolutions? Here are are some reasons why people renew their goals and intentions before the year starts:

Transparency

Some people aim to set new year’s resolutions in order to come to terms with themselves. It helps people reassess where they are at in life and what areas they can improve on. Through this, individuals become more honest and transparent regarding their goals.

Accountability

While others keep a journal to track their progress, some people even share their ups and downs throughout the year with a trusted friend or family member. This helps them stay on track with their goals, and helps them explore other aspirations they could possibly have. It keeps them inspired and accountable.

Increase hope

Many people look back at the past year with discouragement and sadness. Establishing new year’s resolutions helps individuals keep their eyes forward and helps them be optimistic.

Regardless of the reason for creating new goals and finding what works, there are a couple of resolutions you might want to consider and carry into your work life. In this article, we will be giving you some new year’s resolutions that could help you when it comes to your career.

Resolution #1: Take the stairs when traveling to meetings or to your office space

Let’s face it: taking the elevator is convenient. However, you can increase your physical activity and try to stay as active as possible by taking the stairs. Maybe even try standing up from your desk periodically to go on a quick walk around your workspace.

Resolution #2: Read more books about career advice

Everyone knows that learning never stops. Try to set a goal for yourself to read a number of books for the year. Maybe even try to keep the books genre more career-oriented. Read up on books that focus on improving your work ethic and books that give you job advice.

Resolution #3: Make more connections in your field

Now that some workplaces are transitioning into a more face-to-face set-up, it’s time to make the most out of this new environment. Try reaching out to your colleagues and maybe schedule outside of work activities to bond with them. Who knows: you could make a new friend!

Resolution #4: Update your resume

Whether you are considering a new job or you are content in your current work, updating your resume could be a good thing. This will help you visualize your experiences and successes at work. Moreover, it is good to keep documents up to date.

Resolution #5: Decorate your workspace

It’s good to treat yourself from time to time. Try purchasing office supplies that will boost your productivity and help you get in the zone. Much of work has to do with your environment. Keep it clean and have fun decorating your workspace.

It can be hard to look back at the past year. Whether or not the past year was a good experience, it can be difficult to transition into change. Don’t forget to remain as hopeful as possible and to be intentional with your goals.
