Working hard for money deserves a sweet treat. While you are very greatly aware of how much you love your job, there are times when you just can’t wait to get out of the office to have a nightcap with friends or go for a quick getaway for the weekend. This is so much easier to do when you are working in the Queen City of the South—Cebu.
There is an increased job hiring in Cebu because of the new Cebu I.T. Park, formerly known as the Asiatown IT Park. Top company tenants include eTelecare, JPMorgan Chase, IBM, and Microsoft.
If you are from Cebu or planning to pursue a career there, then you will find yourself lucky that amazing leisure hotspots are within your arm’s reach. So there’s no excuse to deprive oneself of a short, sweet escape.
Here are some of the best spots in Cebu where you can get that much needed time to de-stress and unwind.

For when you want to have a quick drink with friends…
Marshall’s Irish Pub
Mango Square, Mango Avenue, Cebu City
Sometimes, you just need a cold brew and live acoustic music to cap off a tiring day at the office—and Marshall’s knows and Marshall’s understands. Here, happy hour is from 4:00 to 7:00 PM daily with live acoustic bands to serenade you starting at 9:00 PM every night.
Apart from the usual pub chow, they offer some slightly edgy comfort food that you shouldn’t miss like the Crocodile Bites (deep-fried crocodile tail in Guinness Beer batter) and Crocodile Cocktail (grilled crocodile tenderloin strips served on lettuce leaves and ice).
For when you want to party…
DEN Nightclub (Formerly The Loft)
2nd Floor, CJRS Point Building, Cebu I.T. Park
The DEN Nightclub is the place to be for the hip, young professionals who want to unwind in Cebu I.T. Park. Of course, drinks here are more expensive than your average bars, but if you want to dance the night away with beats from guest DJs, then this is the place to be.
For when you want pristine waters…
Hermit’s Cove in Aloguinsan
Hermit’s Cove is one of the two famous beaches in Aloguinsan, Cebu, which is perfect for beach lovers who want to get out of the bustling city on the weekends.
As the name suggests, it’s a secluded spot and getting there can be quite a challenge that would entail a 2-hour drive from the city on a road that is littered with loose gravel and pebbles. If you’re used to the comforts of a well-established beach resort, this isn’t the right option for you. However, for the adventurous folks who want to camp it out on the beach, the rewards of the unspoiled beach are limitless.
Lusno Falls, Langin, Ronda
From the city to the Ronda proper, you’ll have to endure a long 3-hour travel first. Upon arriving at Ronda, you’ll be riding a habal-habal to reach the Lusno Falls.
This is probably the closest thing you can get to a natural infinity pool with views of the mountains. The cold, crystal blue-green waters offer an amazing way to cool off and forget the weekly grind at the office. Plus, there’s nothing like the sounds of gushing water to soothe your stress away.
For when you want the real thrill…
Canyoneering in Badian, Cebu
For a different kind of thrill, head down South and do the Canyoneering activity in Badian, Cebu with your family or friends! From the South Bus Terminal, you have to ride the bus going to Badian, which will take around 3 hours.
The entire activity would last about five to six hours, and consists of downstream jumping, rock scrambling, swimming, and hiking. The first jump is said to be the highest at around 18-20 feet high, and is required! Don’t worry, though, because once you’ve conquered this one, the next two jumps will be a piece of cake!
For when you want a fancy weekend…

Punta Engaño, Mactan Island
Want to feel luxurious after a stressful week at work? Check out Mövenpick Hotel in Mactan Island, Cebu. This five-star hotel/resort has everything you need for a fancy getaway from the city.

Eating good comfort food is always a great stress reliever, and we find that a good croissant can always chase the blues away. Head to La Vie Parisienne at Gorordo Avenue for some French cuisine fix.
Aside from these, they also have a wine bar and an adjoining restaurant called La Maison Rose where you can soothe your stress with a bowl of hot beef bourguignon.
Jobs in Cebu are fast growing in recent years. If you live and work here, chances are, you’re used to the famous Cebu Lechon by now. So treat yourself with new experiences by checking out some of these places. Enjoy other activities you can try to destress and feel refreshed for Monday’s work call.
