1. PH needs to generate 14.6 M jobs by 2020—World Bank

The Philippines must generate 14.6 million jobs until 2020 to address the needs of both the unemployed and new job seekers, the World Bank said over the weekend. World Bank lead economist in the Philippines Rogier van den Brink said the country would face a massive job challenge in the next four years, as millions of young Filipinos were expected to join the labor force.

2. BPO industries eyeing 225,000 new jobs this year—DOLE

The country’s information technology-business process management (IT-BPM) or business process outsourcing (BPO) industry is looking at adding more jobs to the economy as it seeks to reach $25 billion (P1.026 trillion) in revenue this year. Growing faster than the national economy’s growth rate, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the IT-BPM sector is very well poised to meet its target.

3. Job seekers hired on the spot at Manila Bulletin job fair

A former worker in the food and beverage industry has opted to shift to customer service as she joined other job applicants who were fortunate enough to get hired on the spot at the Manila Bulletin’s (MB) “Classifieds Job Fair” event leg held at the Robinsons Place Manila Midtown Atrium. “My application experience was good, because when it comes to application processing, it was fast. And you would know the result of your application in less time,” delos Santos said.

4. DOLE partners with Coke for OFW reintegration programs

Female OFWs returning to the Philippines looking to put up their own sari-sari stores, carinderias, or businesses may now sign up for WOMEN REACH (Women Entrepreneurs Reintegrated and Economically Active at Home), a new program launched Saturday through a partnership between the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Coca-Cola Philippines. “We know that when we invest behind women and we empower them economically. There are three things that they invest first: the family, education, and nurturing their kids. That is the best place where you can invest your money,” Coca-Cola Philippines president and general manager Diego Granizo said.
