1. Take a break from your usual activities
Want to take time off from your daily activities? This is the best time as you have 3 days off. A change of scenery would definitely help you clear your mind and recharge you for the upcoming week. You might want to go on a staycation. Metro Manila has a lot of hotels which have reasonable rates. Do check out sites like MetroDeal and Agoda for great discounts. Make it a point to keep your laptop turned off. If you can stop yourself from answering emails or work-related phone calls, even better. For those with children, try to leave your kids at home. Make use of the time to reconnect with your partner. For a more spiritual connection, you can also check out the programs available at the Center for Family Ministries. A lot of young professionals have sworn by their silent retreats. Their retreats can allow you to reflect, or just do things you don’t really have time to do so during regular days.
2. Soak up on some culture and history
One of the more meaningful things you can do during this time would be to soak up on some history lessons. Take a trip down to Old Manila and visit Intramuros. Enjoy picturesque buildings that reek of history. Make sure to take pictures of the San Augustine Church, Casa Manila, and other notable buildings. Should you get tired, hop on a kalesa and take a tour around the walled city.
3. Hit some waves
For those who love outdoor activities, this is a good time to go diving. Anilao at Batangas is one of the most popular venues for scuba diving. Just a short drive away from Manila, this area is perfect for a quick day trip.
4. Go for a road trip
Long weekends are the best time for road trips. One of the best places to visit can be found up North. Said to have some of the most gorgeous beaches in the Philippines, Pagudpud is definitely the best place for relaxation. Simple and understated, this place does not get much people traffic, making it the best place for some much needed R & R. Also in the North are the beautiful sand dunes of Ilocos, a quiet place for some crazy adventure.
5. Go camping
Anawangin Cove or Nagsasa Cove are some of the most popular places campers like to visit. Just a drive away from Metro Manila, this area will definitely allow you to relax and reconnect with what trees, wind, sand, and waves – novelties for us city-dwellers. Apart from camping, you can also go hiking or trekking in this area. Enjoy the clear blue waters and the gorgeous white sand and allow your mind to rest.
6. Take a short drive and go on a food trip
Let us not forget Tagaytay. Still considered to be one of the most popular places that most Metro Manila-ers would visit on holidays, Tagaytay is known for its perfect weather and great food choices. For those with children and for the young at heart, make it a point to visit the amusement park, Sky Fun. Let down your hair and just enjoy the rides while taking in the nice cool weather.
7. Stay at home
Although there are many places you can visit within the metropolis or even a few hours away from Metro Manila, there is truly no place like home. The best thing to do during a holiday might be just to stay at home. Catch up on sleep and watch all the movies you had piled up in your hard drive. If you are up to it, you can even whip up desserts and dishes you have always been meaning to do so. But most importantly, use the break to spend time with your loved ones, which is something you cannot easily do during regular work days. In a nutshell, use the long weekend to do activities you cannot do during work days. Be it spending time at home or meeting up with old friends, make sure that you do not rush yourself and just take things easy. *Photo from awrahtoursandtravel.wordpress.com
